Lake Community
One of the most beautiful sections of the Trinity River Basin includes Lake Worth, a 3,489-acre reservoir created in 1914. This lake is a center of community life and the source of fascinating urban legends!
Essentials
Only 20 minutes from Fort Worth and 50 minutes from Dallas, Lake Worth offers city amenities without the hubbub of urban life. Emergency health care is available at the Texas Health Specialty Hospital, just 23 minutes away. In addition, Fort Worth Meacham International Airport is only a 13-minute drive away, perfect for jetting off for business or pleasure.
History and Spooky Stories
Created entirely for recreation in 1914, Lake Worth is perfect for lake lovers looking for a vacation. The lake drew visitors from all over North Texas because of the large size and sparse vegetation on the lake’s bottom. The reservoir is at the west end of the Trinity River Basin, which runs from North Texas and empties into the Gulf of Mexico.
If you love spooky stories, then this lake is the perfect place for you. The Lake Worth Monster/Goatman is said to terrorize the residents of the town. This 7-foot-tall half-man, half-goat was first photographed in 1969, although the legend dates back even further. Three men looking for the beast reported that the monster leaped on top of their car and threw a tire toward them like a paperweight.
Although many attribute these sightings to high school students playing pranks on the community, the unexplained mystery still puts spine-tingling shivers through the hearts of horror lovers everywhere.
Recreation Galore
If horror stories aren’t your thing, fear not. The town of Lake Worth surrounds the reservoir, meaning you don’t have to drive more than 5 minutes for beautiful parks, restaurants, and attractions.
The north end of the lake features the Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge, where tourists can see birds and buffalo. They can also take in the beautiful views of the lake and fields from the plethora of hiking trails. Other parks on the shoreline include Marina Park and Arrow S. Park, which borders the north and south city limits. Soak in the sun on the beach, take a canoe out on the water, or plan a picnic with charcuterie boards, barbeque, or whatever suits your fancy.
Lake Worth is perfect for any level of angler. If you are looking to catch fish like white crappie, largemouth bass, spotted bass, white bass, and catfish, this is an ideal fishing hotspot.
The Wild West Come to Life
Everyone knows that you can’t escape the country life in Texas, and if you are going to live the true Texan lake life, then that merits a day trip to the famous and historic Stockyards. This area celebrates Texas’s history in the cattle industry through the revitalization of the stockyard, which was originally constructed in 1866.
The Stockyards boast some of the best entertainment, beer, and food in the entire state. Take your family to the weekly rodeo, or watch the daily cattle drive reenactments. Perfect for families or adults seeking to experience an iconic Texas bar scene, the stockyard is completely worth the 15-minute drive.
Relaxation and Recreation
If you love both the city and the small-town Texas life, then Lake Worth is the perfect place to call home.
