River Upon River
Spanning 726 acres, Lake Leon nestles amidst a series of rivers just five miles southeast of Eastland, Texas. The Brazos River flows into the Little River, which feeds into the Leon River, eventually trickling into Lake Leon.

Although Lake Leon embodies tranquil Texas lake life, it is conveniently located near all the necessities. The Eastland Memorial Hospital is only 9.3 miles from the lake and provides excellent medical care. Additionally, the Abeline Regional Airport is 62 miles away and offers domestic flights.
A Community Lifeline
Since West Texas contains a dry climate, the local lakes are invaluable water sources. In the case of Lake Leon, the Eastland County Water Supply District created the lake to supply municipal and industrial water to the surrounding counties. On July 8, 1952, the State Board of Water Engineers authorized the reservoir. Construction began on January 13, 1953, and was completed in June 1954.
The Angler’s Paradise
Lake Leon undoubtedly features the area’s best largemouth bass fishing and also offers anglers good opportunities to catch crappie, catfish, sunfish, and white bass. The lake provides a wide variety of fishing covers, including standing timber, creek channels, aquatic vegetation, rocky areas, riprap, and brush. Since fish often congregate in these areas, the chances of reeling in a big one on Lake Leon are excellent. Throughout the year, the lake hosts many largemouth bass fishing tournaments, so it’s a great place to live if you want to try competitive fishing.
Recreation On and Off the Lake
Although Lake Leon does not sport a marina or offer boat rentals, it does contain a bait shop, picnicking sites, fishing piers, and two public boat ramps. Additionally, the lake showcases four private camping and recreational areas.
The Lone Cedar Golf Course rests on the shores of Lake Leon and is a beloved attraction, featuring a challenging 18-hole golf course. Additionally, La Mancha Ranch is nestled on the Lake Leon shoreline. This scenic lake resort offers stylish cabin stays and is a great getaway for the whole family.
Just off the lake, in the charming town of Eastland, residents can learn more about Texas’s vibrant history at the Eastland County Museum or catch a film at the historic Majestic Theatre. And, to experience the rich flavors of West Texas, residents can dine at Bear Creek Taphouse, Meghann’s Market, Louise’s Cafe, Mae’s Meat Market, and Cafe Rico.
