Texan, Tuscan, rustic, and rural, this sprawling compound on Lake Alan Henry refines the traditional joys of Southern lake living. Situated on 3.81 acres, the 4,756-square-foot home generously accommodates the avid entertainer, but for living, it comfortably fits three bedrooms, four full baths, and a lavish guest house. Plus, it’s the perfect retreat for those seeking refuge from city life or those looking to embrace a slower pace of living.
From the Outside

Constructed by Chuck Dawson, this central-Texas estate blurs the lines between indoors and out and tells the story of the homeowners and area. Stone accents throughout the property, locally sourced in nearby Granbury, ground the home, infusing it with a cozy, earthy feel. And there’s nothing quite like the sound of pelting rain on a metal roof, which encapsulates the home. When thunder rolls in the distance, the estate at 71 North Ridge resounds a gentle hum.
The Great Hall

Beyond the pitched portico, a great hall astounds with its eclectic charm. Featuring 42-foot-tall vaulted ceilings and window-lined walls, the room bathes in natural light. Such was the intent of the architect, Grayson Harrist, who saw the opportunity the surrounding lake presented — the reflection of shimmering light dancing off the water. Atop the wall sits a belt of clerestory windows inspired by the legendary Frank Lloyd Wright that cascades light and color across the room. Likewise, this kaleidoscopic room remains the homeowners’ favorite aspect of the estate. This open-concept space leads to the main bedroom, back patio, cinema room, and upper level.
Texan Hearth

A stone hearth in the hall’s right wing welcomes weary travelers amidst a palette of warm tones to create a cozy respite. The room also provides a spacious area for entertaining. Organic elements are used throughout the home to counterbalance the rigid angles of the hand-cut mantel and the dwelling’s other black-walnut features. Directly behind the fireplace, a wall niche with built-in shelves accommodates a television and a display of collectibles.
Two-Fold Kitchen

A stunning granite countertop clads the island in a brilliant swirl of eggshell, burnt sienna, caramel, and veridian. The mosaic backsplash complements the granite and mingles the hues of the lake and the land with a rustic twist. Adjacent to knotty alder cabinets, this fully-equipped kitchen includes an icemaker, a small integrated fridge, a wine fridge, and modern amenities. Tucked in the back, a scullery boasts expansive countertop space and deep cabinets, along with a walk-in pantry.

The Master Bedroom

The roomy master suite is the heart of the home. While the space includes luxurious bedroom furnishings, the homeowners enjoyed its capacity for a living space capable of accommodating other furniture. A door on the left side leads to a screened-in porch with stellar views of the pool, outdoor entertainment area, and Lake Alan Henry.
Master Bath

The home’s seamless connection to nature continues into the master bathroom. The double-sink vanity has two free-standing cerulean bowls, a mirrored wall, and plenty of counter space, drawers, and cabinets. The clawfoot bathtub conjures images of vintage luxury, striking a lovely contrast against the rustic stone-masoned walls with integrated shelves. Next to the bathtub, interior designer Cindy Harrist created an artisanal tile mural invoking a wild ocean wave. The master bath’s unique features include a shower with multiple shower heads, body jets, a detachable shower head, and a bench.
Upstairs Expansion

Adjacent to the kitchen, a staircase adorned with wrought iron leads to the second floor. Furnished with hand-scraped hickory hardwood, this area offers a quiet moment away from the crowds and features multiple intimate sitting rooms, two bedrooms, and a reading loft.
Third Floor Panoramic

Wrapped in a white-pine shiplap, the third-floor observation tower makes an idyllic spot for date night, daytime hosting, or a sunset escape. Moreover, this cozy room offers panoramic views of the property and Texas hill country.
Around the Property
Inviting Patio

Outside the great hall, a screened-in patio provides sunroom bliss. A walkable veranda spans to the poolside entertainment area, but you may be tempted to stay in this charming environment. One side of the veranda features a walk-in area with a grill and kitchenette ideal for hosting al fresco dinners.
Entertainer’s Paradise

Stepping off the patio, the immediate backyard encompasses a large entertainment space that greets visitors with an opulent waterfall pool. Meanwhile, a fire pit perfect for outdoor roasting and summer s’mores illuminates the enchanting open-air environment. When the homeowners built the home, they had entertaining in mind, and the expansive property inspires extravagant parties. They’ve used the area for a posh engagement party, and the space makes an elaborate dance floor. Both inside and out, the homeowners have made countless memories throughout their years of entertaining here, and the property can easily host 200–300 guests.
The Boathouse

The city of Lubbock does not permit large-scale boathouses, so the homeowners built their own. This one comfortably houses a boat, off-road vehicles, and additional equipment. Additionally, this boathouse provides hassle-free storage, as the drive-through function means no more backing the boat up, thus reducing the capacity for damage to the boat or building.
To the Trails
Down from the boathouse and guest house, the estate boasts three distinct paths to gorgeous lakeside scenery. Firstly, a trail leads directly to a pavilion with sweeping views of the lake. To the left, two paths diverge by the cliff face. The left will take you downstairs to a viewing area, and going right will travel further down to a fishing locale by the shore. Indeed, running and walking enthusiasts have the trail to themselves.
The Guest House

Undoubtedly, the guest house on 71 North Ridge exceeds all expectations. The Tuscan-inspired abode contains a full kitchen, full bath, two king-size bedrooms, and an additional room. Bespoke black walnut accents continue into the guest house with an integrated table and an eclectic mix of kitchen shelves. The kitchen backsplash and mosaic embellishment provide the crown jewel. A mosaic made of blue and white tiles composes an ocean wave, and two massive wooden slats form a pair of beachy surfboards.

Throughout, this breathtaking home exemplifies the cultural crossroads of Texas, Tuscany, and Mexico. From observation decks to nature trails and sunset vistas, this property embodies the essence of natural beauty.
