Industry and Water Supply

Hubbard Creek was once the site of an 1860s school established by a pioneer rancher.

Now, it is the lifeline of the beloved Hubbard Creek Lake. Construction of the lake began in 1961 and was finalized in December 1962 with the damming of the creek.

In the 1990s, the lake had a conservation storage capacity of 317,800 acres with a lake shoreline of 100 miles. By 2006, Hubbard Creek Lake was nearly full; however, in 2015,  it dropped to record low levels before refilling to a full pool in 2016.

The West Central Texas Municipal Water District now owns and operates the lake. Due to fluctuating water levels, the district monitors the lake throughout the year. Hubbard Creek Lake serves as a water source for industry, mining, and nearby municipalities. It has a drainage area of 1,107 square miles.

Life on the Water

With nearly 15,000 acres of water, the possibilities of fun and adventure are endless. Popular lake activities include swimming, boating, kayaking, jet skiing, and tubing. This lake is perfect for spending the entire day out on the water, just soaking in the views, as there is always something new to see on the shorelines.

Anglers flock to Hubbard Creek year-round in hopes of catching one of the massive fish that call this lake home. There is never a dead season for fishing on Hubbard Creek Lake since the local wildlife management restocks the lake frequently.
