Dunlap Dreams
Lake Dunlap is a public 410-acre reservoir along the Guadalupe River on the outskirts of New Braunfels. The Guadalupe-Blanco River Authority (GBRA) manages all 20 miles of shoreline, and the lake is a favorite among the residents of Guadalupe County. This quaint hamlet blends the familiarity of suburbia with the splendor of lake living.
Essentials
Given its location and proximity to major urban centers, Lake Dunlap is conveniently close to necessities and creature comforts. The nearest hospital is four miles away at Riverside Emergency Room. Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in nearby Austin is the closest major airfield, just a little over an hour away. Target is the nearest full-scale grocery store, less than 20 minutes away.
The Promise of Rebirth
Much of Lake Dunlap’s charm is due to its central location. The lake is almost halfway between San Antonio and Austin, and these close metropolises offer endless opportunities for shopping, tourism, and fun weekend excursions. When lake levels are high, Dunlap is an ideal location for watersports.
In 2019, the reservoir’s spill-gate broke, resulting in a lake-level drop of 13 feet. The dam has been under reconstruction since 2020 and is posed for completion in May 2023. Despite this, much of the lake is still navigable, and residents enjoy water sports in deeper regions. A public boat ramp sits at the Interstate Highway 35 overpass, ready for fishing, cruising, or watersports.
To diversify opportunities for anglers on Lake Dunlap, the GBRA ensures the lake is well-stocked with white crappie, sunfish, flathead catfish, channel catfish, blue catfish, and largemouth bass.
