Along the River
A trip down the Guadalupe River leads to Lake McQueeney — a shining gem just outside San Antonio. This 396-acre reservoir, managed by the Guadalupe-Blanco River Authority, hosts some of the region’s best lake living opportunities. Blending scenic with suburban, this aquatic oasis has something for everyone.
Essentials
All the must-haves are close-by to Lake McQueeney. For medical services, Guadalupe Regional Medical Center is a brief 20 minutes from the lake. While local airstrips are available nearby, the closest major airport is San Antonio International, only 45 minutes away. Local specialty shops and general stores are within convenient reach, but the nearest major supermarket is in Seguin, 13 miles away.
Hidden Treasures
Appropriately, residents often refer to their lake as the “Water Ski Capital of Texas,.” The lake also offers an excellent locale for boating, waterskiing, jet skiing, and wakeboarding. The Lake Breeze Ski Lodge is on the lake’s southern end and is one of the area’s most popular pastimes. This private club features several crowd-pleasing amenities and puts on frequent ski shows, courtesy of the Ski Bees, during the summer.
Just upstream from the lake is Bandit Golf Club — one of San Antonio’s top 18-hole golf courses. With its hills, bunkers, and fairways, the par 71 course, designed by famed architect Keith Foster, is a testament to the natural beauty of Texas hill country.
Treasure Island is a feature of Lake McQueeney that can’t be missed. It features opulent homes and vacation getaways interlaced with intricate canals. This tight-knit, developed island is worth its weight in gold and hosts some of the community’s oldest families.
A diverse cast of life flourishes at Lake McQueeney. For anglers, fish commonly found here include white crappie, sunfish, spotted bass, largemouth bass, and channel catfish. But fish are not the only ones thriving here. Vegetation abounds with American lotus, spatterdock, water hyacinth, rushes, pondweed, cattail, and water lettuce. There are no public boat ramps on Lake McQueeney.
Regal Ambitions
A lake home on McQueeney is one fit for a king, and with all its lavish trappings and amenities, it’s easy to see why so many call it home.
