Private Paradise

Shoal Creek is a private yet fun and welcoming community. Especially for those who love to golf. It is pretty small, sitting at roughly 10 miles — however, that doesn’t mean the fun stops there.

Swinging In The Essentials With Shoals Creek

This Shoal Creek has a lot of nearby conveniences since it is near the Magic City itself, Birmingham. There are countless restaurants and things to do outside of being on the lake. All the available hospitals in Birmingham are 30 minutes or less away from the area. The Birmingham-Shuttlesworth Airport is very close as well.

History of Shoals Creek

In the late 1970s, the private community was constructed on the lake. The golf course was constructed on a magnificent piece of land, specifically 1,550 acres between Oak Mountain and Double Oak Mountain. Hall Thompson bought it from the late Hugh Daniel, and the two men shook hands on the deal with the caveat that an amazing golf course built there. Thompson insisted that Birmingham already had championship golf courses and instead wanted a better championship course that would one day draw a national amateur or something similar.

What makes Shoal Creek a double threat is the interesting history of the lake. Along with it being in one of the best cities in the south.

Fishing

Since it is a private community, only a quarter mile of the lake is available to fish on. However, they have smallmouth bass, spotted bass, longear sunfish, warmouth, flathead and channel catfish, and occasional walleye in the river on Shoal Creek.
