Community and Convenience
Elk River is roughly 200 miles long and is the best shot at having everything you could ever want! Located in Rogersville, Alabama but spans from southern Tennessee. It captures the beauty of the southern countryside as a whole. The small community, mixed with it being geographically convenient, is the most luxurious aspect of Elk River.
The Necessities
The surrounding cities help make Elk River the oasis it is. It’s near Florence, Athens, Decatur, Cullman, and the up-and-coming Huntsville. Multiple hospitals are less than 25 miles away from each other. Along with each city having its own grocery stores and shops, there are also a variety of gyms.
History
At Burroughs Cove, close to the town of Elkhead, Grundy County, Tennessee, is where the Elk River begins to flow. It defines the border between Coffee County and Franklin County below this location. Elk River Dam initially dams it, creating Woods Reservoir, whose impoundment extends upstream to around the same point that the stream stops acting as the boundary between Coffee and Franklin Counties and is wholly in Franklin County. In order to provide a huge amount of water, the United States Army Corps of Engineers oversaw the construction of this reservoir.
The stream serves as the border between Moore County and Lincoln County, then between Moore County and Franklin County, just below the dam. The stream starts to meander seriously. U.S. Highway 64 crosses it close to Kelso, a small town where Confederates utilized a cave as a saltpeter mine during the Civil War. A mile or two south of the courthouse, the Elk passes through Fayetteville and is crossed there by U.S. Highway 231/431. A parched stone masonry bridge — held in place by the gravitational force — crossed Elk River until the late 1960s; a flood destroyed it.
Fishing in Elk River
There’s a whole lot of bass with this one. Smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, striped bass, and spotted bass are the fish indigenous to Limestone County and found in Elk River. The best way to get the Smallmouth Bass is by going out 4-8 miles in the water. There are multiple boat ramps to go ahead and put dad’s favorite toy in the water.
