Marine Life

Eagle Mountain Lake is a premier recreation destination in Northern Texas, and while the dam was finished as far back as 1934, it has long earned and maintained that reputation. The area boasts beautiful parks dotting the lake, including Eagle Mountain Park and Shady Grove Park. Designed for the nature lover, Eagle Mountain Park features more than 5 miles of hiking trail, among other amenities. For the recreationist, Shady Grove Park features softball fields, a tennis court, a volleyball court, and a playground. The waters are ideal for boating, wakeboarding, skiing, and relaxing. 

All along the shores, marinas and five public boat ramps are easily accessible. The lake has its own sense of community, and the place to be is always Party Cove, an area where boaters can tie up and enjoy the fun.

Eagle Mountain Lake was also used for far more than recreation. In 1942, the United States Marine Corps reserved an area on the lake’s eastern shore. The station established there was used for testing the Marine Corps glider program, but it would be short-lived as the program was canceled in May of 1943. Following this, the station was used for multiple purposes, including a remote control aircraft testing site. In 1944, the Marine Corps regained privileged use of the station, where it would become a night-fighter training site. While remnants of the station still exist today, the location was sold to a private citizen in the 1980s. 

Largemouth, spotted, and white bass can be fished at Eagle Mountain Lake for anglers looking to cast out a line. Channel catfish, blue catfish, and crappie also thrive here.
