The Saga of Forest Lake

What was once Dent’s Pond is now known as Forest Lake. Dent’s Pond was first created in the 1870s when Samuel Dent dammed Gills Creek to power a sawmill. The Lake View Investment Company later purchased the pond in 1912 and enhanced it with an 80-foot reinforced concrete dam. After the dam’s completion, the company changed the lake’s name from Dent’s Pond to what it’s known as today. In 1923, John Hughes Cooper acquired the Lake View property and established Forest Lake Land Company and Forest Lake Country Club. Today, the lake is home to many families with its gorgeous scenery and abundance of activities.
