Historic Jackson
Seven Lakes is just outside of Jackson, which was originally a Native American trading post. Later, 303 acres of land in the area were purchased with the intention of building a town. By the 1820s, the property had grown into a successful small town including a handful of houses, shops, and doctors. However, the town faced economic hardship from the 1860s until the 1880s and struggled to grow into a larger town. Then, in 1882, the first railroad reached Jackson, and the economy began turning around as transportation brought in more people.
Today, Jackson is primarily a residential city and is the county seat for Butts County. Although it’s a smaller city, the population is just over 5,000 as of 2020, that hasn’t stopped it from being seen by millions, however. The Georgia town has been on the small screen since 2016 as the fictional town of Hawkins in the Netflix series Stranger Things. Featured buildings in the show include the downtown area, a furniture store, and the county courthouse.
Fun Around the Water
Thirty minutes away from Seven Lakes, the Piedmont National Wildlife Refuge yields guests a fun day outdoors. The Refuge has 21,000 miles of trails and boardwalks, ranging from challenging trails to more casual trails. In addition, the area is a great place to fish for largemouth bass, sunfish, and catfish from March through September. Other activities available include hunting, wildlife watching, and photography areas.

The park offers plenty of hiking and biking trails to discover while taking in the beautiful views of the Georgia wilderness. Additionally, there are 62 tent, trailer, and RV campsites around the park, so the fun doesn’t have to go away with the sun. If you want a more sheltered overnight stay, the park has ten cottages available to rent.
