Horn of Plenty

Missouri’s Table Rock Lake covers more than 43,000 acres, three counties, and two states. Its 750 miles of shoreline stretches across southeastern Missouri before dipping into Arkansas. Whether you come for the area’s boundless recreation or lakeside allures, this destination offers a cornucopia of leisure activities.

Essentials Near Table Rock Lake

This lake’s vast snaking expanse and winding creeks mean that some essentials may vary in distance. Still, the city of Branson reigns as the lake’s premier shopping, recreation, and economic capital. The nearest airport, hospital, and shopping center can be found in and around Branson — Branson Airport, Skaggs Regional Medical Center, and Branson Landing.

Coming to the Table

The White River, which sits on the banks of Branson, was dammed in 1958 for flood control purposes. The 6,423-foot bulwark and the lake it impounded are both named for a nearby rock formation that locals call “Table Rock.” The hydroelectric facility at Table Rock Dam controls nearby powerhouses at other dams.

This lake, in tandem with lakeside towns and cities, welcomes about 5.5 million tourists annually. The picturesque meadows, peaking mountains, and placid waters are a sightseer’s oasis. But it’s not all nature trails at Table Rock, as the nearby city of Branson hosts a series of attractions: sky-high rollercoasters at Silver Dollar City, numerous shopfronts at Branson Landing, and a trip back in time at the Titanic Museum.

Recreation abounds around this lake. Missouri’s premier lake destination boasts some of the state’s finest water sports: jet skiing, wave running, kayaking, paddle boarding, parasailing, and even scuba diving. The lake offers multiple scuba diving locales at differing difficulties, such as Zebulon Pike, Enchanted Forest, and Oasis.

Now this lake is famous for its high-quality bass fishing opportunities and hosts three species of bass—Largemouth, Smallmouth, and Spotted. Flathead and Channel catfish thrive here alongside White crappie.

There are plenty of public campgrounds nearby, and two are RV-accessible. The nearby Table Rock State Park offers hiking and biking trails, a marina, and public access to the lake.
