Newfound Lake is the third-largest and deepest in the state at 4,106 acres and 183 feet. The lake is also known for its pristine waters, being fed by eight different springs and milfoil-free.

The 22 miles of shoreline is accompanied by Cliff, Mayhew, Belle, and Loon Islands.

Residents can enjoy all kinds of boating: powerboats, pontoons, bass boats, sailboats, jet skis, kayaks, canoes, and more. Wellington State Park has a public boat launch on the west side of the lake for motorized boats. Kayaks and canoes can use the easy-access launch site on the north end of the lake.

Anglers can find brook trout, brown bullhead, burbot, chain pickerel, common shiner, creek chub, eastern blacknose dace, fallfish, golden shiner, lake trout, landlocked salmon, longnose dace, margined madtom, rainbow smelt, rainbow trout, redbreast sunfish, rock bass, round whitefish, slimy sculpin, smallmouth bass, white sucker, and yellow perch.

Around the Area

Continue your outdoor excursions at Mount Cardigan or Sugarloaf Mountain that feature scenic hiking trails overlooking one of the most beautiful lake regions. When the snow comes, these locations allow skiing, snowmobiling, and more winter sports.

The Annual New Hampshire Marathon, which doubles as a Boston Qualifier, runs around Newfound Lake featuring its fall colors. Every Sunday during January through March the Boston Ice Racing Chapter gathers on Newfound Lake to race all kinds of cars; it is a thrilling event whether you are racing or watching.

Explore Concord

Concord, the capital city of New Hampshire, has lots to offer residents of Newfound Lake.

The top attraction is the independently owned Red River Theatre. This theatre offers screenings of independent films as well as classic movies.

Those more interested in live performances should head to Capitol Center for the Arts. There they will find ballet, country, rock, and Broadway performances.

Another attraction is the Mcauliffe-Shepard Discovery Center, named after Christina Mcauliffe and Alan Shepard. This museum features interactive indoor and outdoor exhibits as well as a planetarium.
