Ross R Barnett Reservoir, also known as "The Rez," is the largest body of water in Central Mississippi.

It is in Jackson, closest to Ridgeland and Madison, where there are restaurants, stores, hotels, schools, and medical facilities.

St. Dominic Hospital and the Jackson International Airport are in the center of the city.

Being located in Jackson, Ross R Barnett Reservoir sees about two million visitors each year. It has effortless access, with 22 boat launches, 16 parks, five campgrounds, and six lakeside trails.

The lake covers about 25,000 acres and has 105 miles of shoreline. Its construction on the Pearl River was completed in 1963. It was named after the 52nd governor of Mississippi.

The Rez is a boater's paradise, and it is traveled by pontoons, Tritoons, speed boats, jet skis, kayaks, and canoes. Water skiing, wakeboarding, and tubing are other popular activities.

The lake holds a variety of bass: largemouth, smallmouth, striped, spotted, and black. It also offers some of the best crappie fishing in all of Mississippi.

Marinas like Main Harbor Store, Friendship II Boat, and Sportsman's Marina offer boat rentals and storage.

Shuckers Oyster Bar, Cock of the Walk, and Shaggy's on the Rez are popular lakeside restaurants.

The Country Club of Jackson is located just below the lake. It features an 18-hole golf course, restaurant, spa, and pool.

Travel on to Downtown Jackson to shop the Outlets of Mississippi, or explore the Mississippi Museum of Science, Eudora Welty House, The Children's Museum, the Oaks House, and several other historical sites.
