About Louisiana

Beauty on the Bayou

Louisiana, the Bayou State, located in the Southern United States, is known for its melting pot of culture, beautiful cities, delicious Cajun food, and most of all, bayous.

Much of the state's lands were formed when sediment washed down the Mississippi River, which left enormous deltas and vast areas of coastal marshes and swamps. These nutrient rich areas are very biodiverse and have everything from orchids growing alongside the shores, to tiny frogs living in the muddy waters, to sturgeon and paddlefish swimming in the waters, to ibis and egrets soaring high in the skies above.

Sportsman's Paradise

Louisiana has some of the most beautiful waterways in the entire United States, including several lakes and major rivers such as the Mississippi and the Sabine. These waterways offer several ways to enjoy them up close and personal, such as kayaking and paddleboarding which are a nature enthusiast's paradise!

Bayou D'Arbonne Lake covers 15,250 acres in northern Louisiana's Sportsman's Paradise tourism region, near the Arkansas and Mississippi borders. This lake is truly a "sportsman's paradise" with all of the recreational activities to choose from on this large lake. Swimming, boating, hiking, and fishing are very popular recreations enjoyed by people of all ages on this lake.

Record breaking bass and crappie have been caught in Bayou D'Arbonne Lake and species of catfish, perch, and bream are also plentiful here. The lake also features two state parks and a National Wildlife Refuge that have miles of hiking and biking trails if you prefer to stay on land. With about 100 miles of shoreline, Bayou D'Arbonne Lake has several homes surrounding the lake and a lake-area population of 3,500.

World's Biggest Cypress Forrest

Caddo Lake, which sits on the line of Louisiana and Texas and is about an hour away from Shreveport, is a monster of a lake covering more than 26,800 acres. The lake has a subtropical climate which creates an ideal climate for vast biodiversity to flourish here. The best way to see what this lake has to offer is up close and personal by canoeing or kayaking it.

Caddo Lake contains the world's largest Cypress forest in the world which houses Cypress trees that are 250 to 400 years old! There have also been 71 different species of fish found living in the waters of this lake including crappie, largemouth bass, white bass, and white bass. Caddo Lake is home to over 250 types of birds as well such as Great Horned Owls, Barred Owls, Great Blue Herons, Egrets, ducks and many more.
