If you want easier fishing, cast a big bobber and sucker right off the dock, sit back, and wait for a monster to cruise in and then get ready for a riot. This is also a great lake for lazy pontoon cruises, especially along the wild Carlos Avery shoreline where giant herons and egrets stalk prey. You'll also see them on your shore throughout the day. When we first moved here the lakeshore was much cleaner and sandier as the previous owners had kids who played and splashed and kept down the weeds. The grounds were also virtually all lawn, which inspired us to create large naturalized areas in the yard and on the shoreline to both bring in the wild things and to cut down on the mowing and maintenance. What used to take three-and-a-half hours to mow now takes two. Were we to stay we would allow even more wild growth, but there is also something nice about having a large, freshly mowed lawn for that estate-like appearance. The lakeshore can be as clean as you want it, but we opted for the wild and kept only a small forty-foot wide weeded area around the dock.

The house is an altogether different place than when we arrived, with a new covered entry and glass front door and floor-to-ceiling fireplace in the great room. We also installed white-oak hardwood floors in much of the upstairs and recently added hardwood laminate floors throughout the basement. Virtually the entire interior was painted just this spring and a new roof with complete ridge vent and seamless gutters was installed last summer. The house was last painted in 2005 and the enormous, two-story 1800-square-foot deck was stained again this spring.
